Wildfires and Climate

“Climate change is affecting wildfires in two main ways. The first is an increase in the risk or the likelihood of wildfire. The second is longer fire seasons – and this is mostly coming from warming temperatures.” - Dr Megan Kirchmeier-Young.

Climate change has a massive affect on wildfires. It affects where the fires start, how big they are, how long they'll last, how destructive they are, and more ways that the fires affect lives. When storms hit and lightening strikes the rises in heat cause the fires to start and spread quickly through forests leaving destruction. Luckily, we have firefighters and rescue teams working to put out the huge fires but it takes a long time because of the rapid spread of the fires and all of the smoke. Smoke can be very dangerous and people can experience burning eyes and a runny nose to coughing, wheezing, and finding it difficult breathing. If someone has heart, lung disease, or asthma the smoke may make the symptoms worse.

This is all because of a "little" rise in heat. Being aware of the changes is just as Important as doing something about it. This is knowledge and we need to understand.
